Somerset F.A. - Junior Cup
Round 1
Victoria Sports 1 Coleford Athletic 5
Saturday, 01 October 2005
Coleford settled the better in the blustery conditions in this Somerset Junior Cup 1st round match, Charlie Walton spurned an early chance, Dan Welch was wide from the edge of the box. Victoria hit an effort over and one wide from a free kick before Welch brought a fine save from the home keeper. Fluent football was at a premium because of the high wind and narrow pitch and a huge scramble in the area somehow failed to give Coleford the lead as they failed to turn superiority into goals. The breakthrough came in the fortieth minute Tony Burton giving the visitors a one goal half time lead.
Coleford were again on top in the second half, Lance Cray twice and strike partner Welch hitting the side netting, both impressively working the Victoria back four hard all game, but on this occasion both failing to get on the scoresheet. Welch was the brought down in the box for a penalty that Les Allen rammed home for the visitors second goal. Dan Reynolds excellent fifty yard run but poor finish failed to finish the game off and the home team struck straight back a superb finish bringing Victoria back into the contest. Five minutes later Walton fired Coleford's third, substitutes Jamie Reynolds and Ki Rashleigh added late goals, as the visitors ran out 5-1 winners. Charlie Walton was man of the match. There is no fixture for either Coleford side this Saturday. COLIN SHOTTER
