Colefords worst run for nine seasons came to an end beating Junior Cup finalists Mells in this Charity Cup quarter final after extra time despite being three goals down with only 15 minutes remaining. In a scrappy opening Mells had the better of the play and took the lead when veteren Julian Seviour hitting home a 25 yard free kick that home keeper Laurie Bigden got nowhere near. Jamie Reynolds should have done better from 12 yards, and Colefords first shot on target was from brother Dan that was well saved after 38 minutes. Before the break Mells best player Barry Sandquest turned the home defence but shot wide and John Billing stung the keepers fingers from outside the box. The visitors were worth their 1-0 half time lead.
The energetic Dan Welch was just wide early in the second half, Tim Cuff missed a glorious chance but team mate Sandquest extended Mells lead with a header shortly afterwards. Simon Millard slotted home the third goal as Coleford looked like falling apart for the second game running. Billing's move into midfield along with the return from injury from Les Allen suddenly fired Coleford into life and it was Billings goal bound shot that was deflected in by Lance Cray that started the fight back in the 75th minute. 5 minutes from the end Jamie Reynolds scored the second. Both teams then had goals disallowed and Mells suffered for consistant time wasting as Allen cooly converted a penalty 4 minutes into time added on to take the game into extra time. The home team totally dominated extra time and Cray missed two gilt edged oppertunity's to give Coleford the lead but made amends by slotting home the vital goal with 4 minutes remaining.
A second Allen penalty secured the win, the final score being 5-3. Man of the match was John Billing. Saturday is a league game away at Wookey. all players meet in the Eagle at 1:15 for a 2:30 kick off.
