Grand Opening of New Stadium

At long last the Grand Opening of our new Stadium was here .

                                 Were we ready  ? ? ?  .             Hopefully so .

The two teams were led out, side by side, behind the three Officials and in front of the Ball Boys. The RECORD LEAGUE CROWD of 201 applauded as both sides took up their positions, and the young ball boys from GLENCOE Utd. took up theirs.

The match got under way with spectators  sitting, standing around the pitch, and…..

even standing on the grass banks ………like the good old days.

Sutton went on the attack first, and showed why they are favourites for the League Championship as well as being in two semi-finals. They are a very good side but we were up to the task in the beginning, and even had our own chances to score. Sutton constant pressure told, and ball fell nicely for Suttons first goal and a bad mistake by the linesman, giving a throw in the wrong direction (in our opinion) led to their second.  In between, both sides played some good football, with Sutton just ahead. Marsh‘s keeper, Steve Kennedy was in good form and “shone“ in front of the large crowd. Harry Thomas was back in defence and along with Tony Heath & Jonny Wiggins  played exceptionally well.

The second half was mostly all Marsh Rangers but no goal followed. We won many corners, and limited them to few efforts on our goal.  Their keeper Leigh Bowden played a blinder and how he saved some of our efforts was beyond belief. The crowd were cheering us on but to no avail. John Johnson, Ian Adele, Steve Haughey & Steve Cloherty all played their part but the ball would not go into their net.

A good performance by Marsh Rangers but even better by Sutton. We believe the crowd enjoyed themselves ..     ONWARDS  and  UPWARDS   for the future .

Man of the Match ::: STEVE  KENNEDY .
