Deportivo were slow off the mark again and defence relied much on playing the offside trap. Then errors crept in when they failed to push up as a unit and allowing the opposition to make runs from deep. The warning signs were there when Pablo cleared their first run and was lucky not to be sent off for a professional foul. But on the 2nd attempt, CB played the ball over the defence who were caught napping and resulting in 1st goal.
Deportivo played like a team lacking in confidence, and when the management didn?t think it could get worse, Pablo had to be taken off injured (groin) and Danny Rey came on forcing few tactical changes.
The second half saw a vast improvement in Deportivo despite conceding a 2nd goal against a run of play. Deportivo dominated the play and applied pressure creating few chances with CB holding firm. Ahmet and Youssef came in for Danny Gomes and Johnny, and Youssef showed great skills and strength when he beat their last defender to the ball and went on to score with a nice finish.
The second half was a much better performance by Deportivo but the damage had been done earlier in the game, and at this level you cannot afford to allow teams a two-goal start.
