Milton United  3    Pegasus Juniors  5

Saturday, 08 January 2005

Milton's nightmare start to the New Year continued with another poor performance against Pegasus Junior's from Hereford.

Milton conceded five goals at home for the second consecutive match however with five minutes to goal Milton could have rescued an unlikely point.

Chris Mortlock opened the scoring on 18 minutes for the visitors as Milton were outnumbered at the back following a speedy counter attack. Milton responded with some good approach play against a strong wind and despite creating a couple of good opportunities Milton were unable to register an equaliser.

Half Time: 0-1.

Even with the wind in their favour Milton was unable to convert any of the excellent opportunities they created. Ben Price hit a second for the visitors on the hour mark and Chris Mortlock scored the third just three minutes later and when Ben Price hit the goal of the match on 71 minutes to put Junior's 4-0 up Milton looked dead and buried. Substitute Steve Munns fired a half chance in on 83 minutes from an acute angle to belatedly open for Milton and then straight from the kick off a long ball into the penalty area found the head of Garry Hartley who steered the ball past the stranded keeper and suddenly Milton had a glimmer of hope at 4-2. Panic seemed to have set in with the visitors defence as Ian Smith hooked in Milton's third in the 85th minute, and as they piled forward looking for an equaliser, substitute Daniel Sobocinski finished Milton off as he broke through a stretched home defence to secure the points and a 5-3 win.

This win moves Pegasus away from the bottom two, but still in a relegation position and only one point behind Milton.
