Saturday, 21 August 2004

For the first 20 minutes it was mostly one-way traffic, as Pewsey Vale had to soak up a lot of pressure. A let off for the Vale came in the second minute through a defensive error and again on the 8th when Vinny Byfield had his powerful shot re-bound back into play off the post. The 18th minute saw a good chance for Pewsey, a free kick by Tom Ritchie was floated into the box but Matty Messenger was unable make contact. A well placed kick out, by Vale keeper Lee Wilson put Paul Fisher on a great run up the left side Fisher's near perfect cross clipping the angle of the far post. Bicester lost Lawrence Allen when he fell awkwardly and was taken to hospital with a suspected broken ankle. Ritchie set up Steve Bush on the 28th minute but the visitor's keeper, Martin Woodward, denied him. Pewsey took the lead from the penalty spot after Messenger was upended in the box, the kick was converted by Ritchie for Pewsey to take a 1st half lead.

Half Time: 1-0

Pewsey sent on youngster Tony Hurkett at the restart of the second half for Kevin Ackrill but on 51minutes they went down to 10 men when keeper Wilson was unlucky to be red-carded for handling outside the box Messenger took over in goal. Messenger made two decisive saves as Bicester looked to get back into the game and Pewsey continued to keep their lead. Bicester got back into game on 75 minutes through Spencer Warr when the Referee played the advantage rule after his assistant flagged for a foul on a Bicester player. Six minutes later Michael Wyatt put Bicester ahead and Mickey Marshall put the game beyond on the 88 minute following another good save by Messenger.
