Semi Final

Purton FC  0    Letcombe FC  1

Saturday, 07 August 2004

Letcombe dominated possession and seldom looked like conceding a goal, but failed to turn their superiority into clear chances.

The best chance of the first half fell to Purton in a scramble following a corner, but Jonathan Shuker blocked a goal bound shot on the line. Gareth Boldsworth headed inches over the bar for Letcombe.

Half Time: 0 - 0

Paul Jezzard shot narrowly over early in the second half and Mark Brind was sent clear fifteen minutes from time, but he shot harmlessly wide. The match went into extra time and early on Nick Roberts found namesake Paul with a defence splitting pass, but his shot only found the side netting. The only goal of the game came in the last minutes of the first period of extra time. Mark Rees did well to evade his marker and he was brought down from behind as he raced goalwards, however, he picked himself up to coolly side foot the penalty into the corner of the net. Purton could and should have equalised in the last minute after opening up the right of the Letcombe defence, but the low cross was side footed over the bar.

Final Result: - 0 - 1

Letcombe now entertain Premier Division neighbours Wantage Town in the final on Saturday 14th August.
