End of season goal-fest as Binfield bury Bisley!

A hat trick each for Havermans and Kellaway, with Lee and Hume also on the mark, as Binfield went goal crazy to close the campaign.

Both teams arrived for this mid-table, end of season game with nothing to play for, so they could have been forgiven for going through the motions ? quite a surprise then at the goal glut that followed. Binfield recalled Harvey in goal, his first game for some time due to work commitments. Otherwise the team was unchanged from the win over Drayton last week, with Lee returning on the right and McCoy, who had played on Thursday and Friday, rested on the bench.

The early exchanges saw each team feeling their way in midfield. Withers produced a fine cross on 5 minutes that found Baker?s head. The home skipper should have at least tested the keeper but his effort was wide. Bisley were stroking the ball neatly around the midfield and Thorn was looking good. Thorn took on Hume for pace down Binfield?s left, getting to the by-line, but over-running the ball out of play when danger loomed. Binfield had two free kicks on the left-edge of the Bisley area, both for fouls on Williams, but neither produced anything of note. A hasty clearance by the keeper, from a back-pass, fell to Harris, but his first-time effort from distance cleared the bar. Bisley?s best efforts came from Binfield defenders. First Hume, under pressure, headed onto the roof of his own net from a cross. Then Keough?s sliced clearance forced Harvey into a save at the feet of a striker. Harvey then delayed on a clearance outside his box and Thorn charged the kick down before lobbing wide. At the other end efforts from Lee, Keough and Baker went narrowly wide as the game continued to be an open contest. Signs were developing that the Bisley defence were not comfortable and an unusual save with his feet by keeper Moss, from a Withers strike, left a number of questions unanswered about his approach. Binfield finally went in front on 38 minutes. Williams burst down the left saw him produce a left-foot cross from close to the goal line. Lee arrived ten yards out and seemed surprised as the ball cushioned off his head and into the net. A minute later and Havermans was through one-on-one with Moss. The striker managed to evade the keeper?s tackle and looped an effort onto the crossbar. In the ensuing scramble, Kellaway blasted the ball home from a yard, but was ruled offside.

Half Time: Binfield 1 Bisley 0

The second half goal spree began within forty-five seconds of the re-start. Kellaway looked well offside as he went free on the right wing. Arrowing on goal, he drew the keeper before squaring for Havermans to slide home from six yards. Binfield?s third goal came on 50 minutes. Neat play between Day and Williams sent Kellaway clear on the left. Beating his man and drawing the keeper, Kellaway shot across goal where Lee managed to keep the ball in play. Lee crossed to Williams, left-edge of the area, and the lurking Havermans on the edge of the six-yard box deflected his shot home. On 57 minutes it was four. Bisley striker Blythin was pole-axed by a clearance from Harvey that struck him in the face from three yards. After a lengthy stoppage, Bisley seemed half asleep as Harris neatly headed beyond a square defence for Havermans to run on and slot under Moss to complete his hat-trick, a second in successive games. Bisley were now looking increasingly ragged at the back. A minute from the fourth it was almost five. Kellaway again turned markers inside out before laying it square to Harris in the box. Harris side-foot effort was cleared off the line. Thorn produced a consolation for Bisley on 67 that his play deserved. A cross from the right eluded Keough and Thorn brought it down and smashed it past Harvey in one movement from six yards. Binfield had to wait until the 84th minute for their fifth goal. Once again the Bisley defence were caught square pushing up towards halfway. Harris through-ball sent Kellaway free and he took it round the keeper before smashing it joyfully into the empty net. Two minutes later and it was Havermans turned provider for Kellaway. A neat cut back from the right saw the young striker net from close in. As the game entered stoppage time, Havermans again put in Kellaway on the right. This time his shot was turned just over by Moss. Harris? out swinging corner, from the right, was headed powerfully home from twelve yards by Hume for his first goal of the season. Deep into injury time and the rout was complete. Havermans jumped with the keeper, heading beyond him and was pulled down from behind as he chased the ball towards goal. Kellaway was following up, however, and before the referee could point to the spot, Kellaway smashed home the loose ball to complete his own hat trick.

Entertaining fare for the home fans to conclude a season of so many what might have beens. Binfield finish in eighth position and second top goal scorers assuming champions Quarry Nomads net at least once in their final game. Havermans finishes second in the top league goal scorer?s chart behind Ian Jones of Hounslow Borough.
