A bad challenge between Mick Martin and Bishops Joe Tustain in the 60th minute left Martin with a broken leg and a red card as relegation threatened Pewsey crashed to defeat in their penultimate game of the season.

Martin 18 cracked his tibia and fibula at the bottom of his shin and also suffered a further hairline fracture. He is expected to be in plaster for six weeks. Striker Craig Wall was also red carded following the ensuing scuffle between players from both sides. Manager Steve Wootton said Martin went in a bit late and ended up getting hurt. He was shocked when the ref informed him that he had sent Martin off.

Pewsey battled with nine men for 30 minutes but were unable to repair the damage done in the first half when Bishops Cleeve took a 20th minute lead through Tustain after running onto a through ball to beat keeper Paul Clark. Clark was beaten again on the 24th minute when he was deceived by a free kick that went straight in the top corner of the net from Andy Tucker.

Mondays defeat means victory over Abingdon in the final game of the season on Saturday is vital if fifth from bottom Pewsey are to escape the drop.
