Tuffley Rovers  2    Pewsey Vale FC  3

Saturday, 12 April 2003

Another exciting performance by Pewsey Vale earned them three vital points that should ensure their Premier Division place for next season.

Craig Walls persistence nearly gave Pewsey an early lead during a good spell of pressure on the home defence. The pressure paid off in the seventh minute when Wall found Ross Anderson who had the simplest of tap-ins to beat home keeper Adam Penny. Tuffley got back on level terms with a penalty from Scott Medcroft in the 13th minute after defender Chris Oram was adjudged to have brought down a Tuffley player in the penalty area. But Pewsey regained the lead in the 26th minute after a quick throw-in by Neil Bartlett to Anderson who found Barry Flippance who powered an unstoppable shot past the home keeper. Tuffley drew level for the second time in the 35th minute when a free kick, combined with sloppy defending, allowed Andy Keveren to score.

Half Time: 2-2

Craig Wall headed the winner in the 46th minute following a perfect cross by Anderson. Pewsey had the best of the second half with Wall and Flippance having chances and with better finishing would have increased the score line. There were some good individual performance from the Pewsey side in the defence from both Micky Goodwin and Tony Dyer and Micky Martin making some good runs on the right side. Another good chance fell to Doug Imrie in the 82nd minute Anderson was brought down just outside the box but the free kick by Imrie bent round the far post. A long ball on the 84th minute found Wall who looped the ball over the head of the keeper but his effort hit the top of the cross bar. Flippance was denied in the final minutes by the keeper after he beat the home defence offside trap.

Next Fixture in the Hellenic Premier Division - Easter Monday 21st April at the Recreation Ground KO 3pm. Pewsey Vale v Bishops Cleeve.
