Saturday, 05 April 2003

This was an exciting game that both sides should have won and easily have lost; therefore a draw was probably a fair result.

The visitors started brightly when Laurence Helme cross was met firmly by Peter Wallace with his header being cleared off the goal line by a defender. Matt Taylor turned a goal bound snapshot by Ross Anderson away at the expense of a corner. Pegasus opened the scoring in the 36th minute when Matt Gray gained possession in his own half, he found Darren Thompson wide on the right who crossed the ball to the penalty spot where it was met by Wallace, his header hit the back of the net before keeper Dave Hunt had time to move and were good value for their lead.

Half Time: 0-1

Shortly after half time Leigh Harris found Thompson with a superb cross field ball but the youngster dragged his shot wide of the far post. Pegasus had a let off when a header from Anderson flashed over the crossbar. Gavin Stone gained possession from a throw in he passed to Neil Hotchkiss who lobbed the advancing Hunt but the ball hit the roof of the netting. On the hour mark, Pegasus lost possession on the edge of the opposition penalty box, a long clearance found Craig Wall who beat Taylor at the near post with a strong shot. Soon afterwards Stone had a shot saved by Hunt at the near post. Five minutes later Stone controlled the ball inside the penalty area and he was felled as he advanced towards gaol. Harris converted the resultant spot kick. The home side levelled the scores with five minutes remaining; a driven cross from the right was palmed away by Taylor into the path of Wall who gleefully tapped the ball into the net. In the dying seconds Taylor made amends when he saved at the second attempt a terrific shot on the turn from assistant manager Barry Flippance.
