Didcot Town  2    Pegasus Juniors  0

Saturday, 29 March 2003

The result of this game never looked in doubt after top-scorer Ian Concannon headed Didcot in front in the 8th minute. A superb move on the left flank resulted in Terry Morrisey picking out Concannon with a cross and he made no mistake with a pinpoint header past Pegasus keeper Matt Taylor from 10 yards. Most of the match was played out in midfield and it wasn?t until midway through the half that the home side created their next chance. Jamie Heapy screwed his shot wide from the edge of the box after a surging run from the halfway line. Chris Dore almost added a spectacular second but he volleyed wide after a fine pass from Andy Cooper. Only a goal-line clearance from Neil Hotchkiss prevented Didcot adding to the lead before the break following Nigel Emsden?s driven free kick.

Half Time: 1-0

The second half continued in the same vein as Didcot looked desperately for a second. Heapy was unfortunate to have his well-struck shot blocked by a colleague on the line and Damien Oglesby was then denied by a fine Taylor save. But in the 49th minute the pressure eventually told as Morrisey again set-up Concannon to head home this time from only 3 yards out. Concannon came agonizingly close to hitting his eighth hat trick of the season. First he saw Taylor block a fierce shot after Cooper had taken a quick-free kick on the left and in the closing stages only the crossbar saved Pegasus after he had cleverly lobbed the ball over Taylor from 20 yards.
