Brackley Town  3    Pewsey Vale FC  0

Saturday, 22 March 2003

This score line did not reflect the Pewsey Vale team performance.

After last weeks win over fellow strugglers Wantage Town hopes were high going into this match. Pewsey had an early let off on 5 minutes when Nick Neal shot across the Vale goal line went just wide. Good work by Ross Anderson on the right flank found Chris Ashurst at the far post but he was unable to control the ball. Andy Baird put the home side ahead in the 10th minute from a free kick just outside the box that beat the Pewsey defence and went in off the post. Pewsey continued to press for the equaliser and Anderson was unlucky. A let off for the Vale again when Neil King shot wide from what looked like an offside position. Then a good move by Anderson from around the half way line made a pinpoint pass to the unmarked Neil Bartlett who shot high over the crossbar. Pewsey had the best of the half and were unfortunate to go into the break a goal down.

Half Time: 1 ? 0

Pewsey continued to give the home defence problems striker Barry Flippance tried to penetrate the defence but like many of the attacks on goal lacked the finish. They brought on Micky Ford for the injured Ashurst on the 54th minute and continued to press. A perfect corner by Tom Ritchie crossed the goalmouth but no Pewsey forword was able to make contact. Brackley Town got the killer goal in the 88th minute from a cross that found Neil Champelovier to power his shot past Dave Hunt. Shortly after Nick Neal hit the crossbar for Brackley and Champelovier got the home sides third goal in the last minute.
