Didcot Town  5    Wootton Bassett Town  0

Saturday, 22 February 2003

Didcot booked a place in the semi-final of the Supplementary Cup with a comfortable win against Wootton Bassett on Saturday. More remarkable is the fact that Town have now won nine consecutive matches in 2003 and in-form striker Ian Concannon has scored in all of them.

There was only ever likely to be one winner when Damien Oglesby opened the scoring early on. Concannon worked the ball into space on the edge of the Bassett penalty box and Oglesby finished in style. Didcot made it two-nil on the quarter hour. Jamie Heapy, who worked tirelessly all game, made a surging run down the right and Concannon found the bottom corner of the net with a left foot shot. Didcot keeper Jeff Simmonds didn?t have a save to make in the match and Bassett?s only chance of the first half was headed over by Stuart Lamont. Concannon nearly added another before the interval but he was unable to connect with Terry Morrisey?s driven cross.

Half Time: 2-0

Concannon had two further chances to extend the home side?s lead early in the second half. Bassett keeper Jason Hillier did well to hold on to Concannon?s firm shot from the edge of the box in the 57th minute. Shortly after Concannon missed the target altogether from only six yards out following Nigel Emsden?s in-swinging corner. The introduction of Rod Dorrian into midfield gave the home side some impetus for the last quarter of an hour and he was involved in all of Town?s three late goals. Didcot?s third of the afternoon came after Dorrian had won a corner kick on the right. Morrisey worked himself some space and crossed for another substitute, Chris Nelson, to head home from 6yards. With 5 minutes remaining Dorrian threaded a perfect ball to Concannon who slipped the ball past the on-rushing Hillier to make it 4-0. Concannon then completed his hat-trick two minutes later tapping home after Hillier could only parry Dorrian?s powerful left-foot shot.

Didcot now face Winterbourne over two legs in the semi-final.
