Penn & Tylers Green  4    Quarry Nomads  1

Saturday, 15 February 2003

These games are six pointers and both teams knew it and were up for the battle.

Quarry Nomads played down the slope in the first half, and soon put Penn under pressure. Within the first eight minutes Quarry earned a penalty, but No 3 Dean Sims failed to convert after Danny Wight managed to push the shot onto the post and Penn scrambled the ball away and regrouped. The play became physical, with both teams taking no prisoners. After 15 minutes Quarry took the lead; slack marking in the Penn defence allowed James Ford to score at the back post. The play was tight with both midfields giving no ground and Quarry went in at half time with a narrow lead.

Half Time: 0-1

The second half began with Penn playing down the slope and proving once again what a formidable team they are. Penn No 8 and man of the match Danny Robertson stepped up a gear, spraying the ball around the park to his colleagues? feet and the goals came. Steve Whittaker scored the first and most important since it settled Penn down. Then Joe Nicholas got the second. Richard Bryant entered the fray from the bench. He not only gave the team fresh legs down the left but also added the third goal as well after a typically aggressive run from midfield. Joe Nicholas scored from the spot to secure the points after the Quarry keeper brought down Richard Bryant.
