Pegasus Juniors  1    Bishops Cleeve  4

Wednesday, 12 February 2003

Pegasus Junior?s went into this match full of confidence having gained seven points out of a possible nine in the previous three games, they were soon brought down to earth conceding two goals in the first quarter of an hour. The visitors were fully deserving of the lead; however, the home side should have been on level terms instead of trailing by the single goal at the interval. A further goal five minutes into second half sealed the fete for Pegasus and the game was all but over as Bishop?s Cleeve completed the scoring and a disappointing night for the home supporters.

The loss of the engine room in midfield with Neal Hotchkiss and Darren Preece both out through injuries was a blow especially as they both had regained form in recent games. The inclusion of new signing Keith Holmans did not materialise as he suffered a reaction to a knee injury after playing for the second team at the weekend. The disappointing result reflects the high quality of opposition found in this league and manager Paul Mann has to step up his search for players to add quality in depth.

In the second minute even before the teams had settled the ever-reliable Steve Aubrey missed a tackle on the edge of the box presenting Wes Green with a simple goal scoring opportunity. Little was seen of the home attack for ten minutes as the green and black visitors poured forward in search of further goals. Adriano Girolami found Del Ewers with an exquisite pass and the little winger curled a shot to the far post that almost deceived keeper John Skeen. On fourteen minutes Girolami under hit a back pass to goalkeeper Matt Taylor who trying to clear the ball tripped Kevin Slack inside the area. The referee had little hesitation in awarding the spot kick that was converted by Slack himself. Pegasus gradually regained some of their new found determination and managed to gain some control of the remainder of the first period with Peter Wallace, Ewers and Girolami all going close. In the thirty sixth minute the players and the spectators alike thought Pegasus had reduced the deficit when a Girolami free kick was met by Wallace his firm header was deflected from under the angle of the crossbar and far post by Skeen at the expense of a corner. Five minutes later the heavy pressure paid dividends this time it was Aubrey who was on the end of a Girolami free kick his header flashed past the helpless Skeen for his first goal of the season.

Half Time: 1-2

The interval came too soon for the home team and it was the visitors that sealed the game in the 51st minute when John Hills got between two defenders to score the important first goal of the half. Pegasus continued to push players forward in search of rewards but, they were punished in added time when Dave Aneyetol completed the scoring.
