Gloucester United  0    Didcot Town  3

Saturday, 08 February 2003

Didcot?s winning run continued on Saturday with a convincing 3-0 win at Gloucester United. Ian Concannon grabbed a hat-trick, making it 12 goals in the last 6 games for the League?s top-scorer, but it was a bad day for strike partner Lee Newport who faces a lengthy spell out after breaking his arm in three places.

The opening half was relatively even and Didcot had to wait until the half hour before taking the lead. Concannon reacted first to fire the ball home after United failed to clear a corner. Unfortunately Newport was injured in the build-up and x-rays later confirmed a serious fracture to his arm. After the interval it was all Didcot and only an inspired display from Gloucester keeper Adam Bennett kept the score respectable. Concannon was narrowly off-target with a 40 yard lob before Bennett denied Darren McNamara and Nigel Emsden with fine saves.

Half Time: 0-1

Bennett could do nothing to prevent Concannon adding a second midway through the half but was called into action again to deny substitute Fletcher Hoey twice in the space of 5 minutes. Gloucester?s only chance of the second half was cleared off the line by captain Andy Cooper and Didcot added another in the closing stages. Concannon completed his treble and in truth the score-line in no way flattered the visitors.
