Pewsey Vale FC  1    Hook Norton  3

Saturday, 01 February 2003

A Good team performance by Pewsey Vale was not good enough to get a share of the points against last seasons fellow promotion side Hook Norton.

Hook went into the lead in the 12th minute when a corner was not cleared by the Pewsey defence. The ball fell to Chris Jackson who powered his shot past Vale keeper Dave Hunt. Four minutes later a great save by Hunt denied Hook from going further into the lead but Pewsey got back on level terms in the 19th minute. Great individual play by new signing Kia Dorland saw him pass to Tony Dyer who fed Bud Waters on the right side and his cross found Mick Martin in front of goal to equalise. A let off for Hook on the 26th minute when a right side cross from Tom Ritchie went across the goalmouth but no Pewsey player got near to put the ball into the net.

Half Time: 1-1

Pewsey fell behind in the 59th minute when the ball for the second time in two minutes crossed the goalmouth this time to be met at the far post by Cliff Cousins who had run from the halfway line to score. In the 62nd minute Pewsey lost defender Adam Stephens with an injury that he received in the first half. He had to go to hospital to have stitches inserted in a leg wound. Pewsey brought on new signing Steve Bush as his replacement. Hook were again denied by Hunt, this time from a Ben Milner 20 yard free kick. A goal line clearance by Dorland from what looked a certain goal stopped Hook from going further into the lead but within a minute Hook completed the scoring in the 85th minute when John Evans met the ball at the near post to wrap up their victory.

This was a good team performance by Pewsey Vale but left new manager Steve ?Nobby? Wootton still looking for his first league points.
