Saturday, 18 January 2003

Chipping Norton Town booked a quarter-final tie at home to Oxford City with a convincing victory at Old Woodstock Town.

After a scrappy opening Chippy finally managed to take control. Gary Wright having a shot that whistled over the bar, Chippy finally took the lead on 35 minutes when good work from Joe Cockroft sent Robbie Wyatt through one on one and he calmly scored passed Mole in the Woodstock goal. Moments later, Chippy keeper Jeremy Winter had to be at his best when he saved well from a Ricky King shot.

Half Time 0-1

The second half started well for Chippy who could have sewn the game up, most notably when after a poor clearance from Mole Gary Wright lobbed the ball forward only for it to dip over the bar. Then on 70 minutes an inch perfect cross from Neil Maskell saw Mark Dennis head wide from 10 yards out. Chippy scored their second with 15 minutes left. Colin Tyrell sent Robbie Wyatt through one on one again and his shot from just outside the area crept in the corner for his 20th goal of the season. Old Woodstock scored a late consolation through Lee Keyes but Chippy held out for a great win.

Manager Phil Heath commented afterwards ?I am absolutely over the moon with today?s performance we really did play well, we had Craig Dore carrying an injury but he was outstanding and when you have someone of Robbie Wyatt?s calibre, you know you are always going to score goals?.

Chipping Norton Town Reserves went out of the Oxfordshire Intermediate Cup at the third round stage losing at home 2 ? 0 against Rover Cowley.

This Tuesday Chipping Norton Town First team have a re-arranged fixture at Home to Easington Sports, kick off 7.30 p.m.
