Didcot Town  1    Henley Town  0

Saturday, 21 December 2002

Didcot?s improvement continued with another narrow home win, this time against Henley Town.

The visitors had sent Didcot to their heaviest League defeat of season earlier in the month and they started brightly again. Only a brave block from skipper Andy Cooper prevented Dauda Fofanah opening the scoring for Henley in the 5th minute. But the home side were also playing well and a brilliant Didcot move involving Damien Oglesby and Andy Parsons midway through the first half ended with Ian Concannon shooting narrowly wide. Richard Witt shot wide of the far post for Henley in on the half hour and shortly afterwards Cooper hit a low free kick straight at Henley keeper Stuart Gosby. Didcot keeper Keith McLoughlin was next in action when he held on easily to Witt?s long shot. The last goalmouth action before the break saw Concannon drive the ball into the side netting following a smart flick-on by Lee Newport.

Half Time: 0 ? 0

Liam Higgins nearly put Henley ahead just after the interval but shot weakly at McLoughlin when clear in the Didcot box. Didcot produced most of the pressure in the second half but rarely threatened. Jamie Heapy produced an excellent cross in the 55th minute but Concannon headed past the far post. Both Glyn Jones and Darren McNamara had chances to open the scoring before the home side grabbed the only goal of the game in the 70th minute. Cooper floated a free kick to the edge of the box, Newport nodded on and Concannon fired home from 10 yards. Gosby had to be quick off the line to deny Concannon a second a short while later. Witt nodded over the bar from a free kick in the closing stages and while Henley pressed forward, Didcot always looked dangerous at the other end. Substitute Lee Nix produced some good touches and he was only inches away from notching his first for the club in the dying moments.
