Division One (West)
Adderbury Park 6 Purton FC 4
Saturday, 07 December 2002
Adderbury Park produced another cracking performance against fellow high flyers Purton to take another three points. Park had a couple of players missing in the shape of Neil Skidmore and Brad Chard, but the replacements, most notably Robbie Timbrell were excellent. Both the teams had previous to this game scored over 80 goals between them and there were always going to be goals and the crowd were not disappointed.
After a scrappy start Park took the lead after 20 minutes when Mark
Agnese fired home a penalty. Both Danny Carter and Joel Bloxham had chances to shoot and it was Bloxham's shot that was handled by the Purton defender and Mark Agnese fired the ball straight down the middle past the diving keeper to give Adderbury the lead. Adderbury doubled their lead on 30 minutes when Joel Bloxham headed home from 10 yards out. Simon Jones made the run down the right and whipped in a cross to Bloxham at the far post who rose between two defenders to head over the keeper into the corner. Bloxham could of made it 3 - 0 minutes later when he went through on the keeper but fired into the side netting after wonderful work from Mike Kenny. Adderbury did however make it 3 - 0 on 40 minutes when new signing Danny Cockle scored his second goal for the club after unleashing an unstoppable 20 yard rocket into the bottom corner. Adderbury looked to be coasting to victory but they were giving a stark warning from Purton just before half time when they scored to reduce the arrears to 3 - 1. Purton had got the ball in the box from out wide and while their was confusion in the penalty box Adderbury's Mike Kenny poked the ball into his own net to give Purton some hope going into the second half.
Half Time: 3-1
Purton?s glimmer of hope was however crushed on 46 minutes when the Purton centre half let the ball go back to his keeper, unaware that Danny Carter had stole in to beat the keeper one on one to put Adderbury 4 - 1 up. Carter in fact made the score 5 - 1 on 65 minutes from the penalty spot. Yet again Danny Carter was released to run at the keeper and just at the moment he was about to shoot the Purton defender brought him down to concede the penalty. Carter dusted himself down to fire the ball into the bottom corner. What looked like a thrashing for Purton was further increased on 70 minutes when Adderbury produced the move of the match to put themselves 6 ? 1 up. Joel Bloxham was given space on the right wing and his "one - two" with Simon Jones, allowed Bloxham to whip in a perfect cross for Mike Kenny to head home into the corner from 6 yards out. Adderbury then made three substitutions and decided to take their foot off the pedal. In the space of 10 minutes, Purton scored 3 goals, one of which was a classic own goal by Adderbury captain Steve Hay to make the score 6 - 4.
In the end Adderbury hung on but the last ten minutes saw Purton camped in the Adderbury penalty area.
