Saturday, 30 November 2002

With two league wins over Vale Yate Town were looking to progress into the League Challenge Cup Semi-Final.

Yate Town were boosted by an early goal in the 4th minute, a perfect cross from the left side, by Craig Davidge found Leon Simpson to head home in this Challenge Cup tie. Yate continued to dictate the game only a great save by Pewsey keeper Elliott Jackson that denied Lee Barlass from increasing the score line with a header on 31 minutes. A good chance fell to Vale?s Craig Wall, having chased for the ball his cross found the head of Barry Flippance but his header was turned away by Stuart Wood. The Yate lead was increased on the 36th minute when Ross Casey and Kevin Coles combined well to set up Paul Metheringham to shoot past Jackson.

Half Time: 0-2

In the second period Pewsey put the pressure on their visitors, a good move between Wall and Flippance deserved more on the 52nd minute. Vale brought on subs Liam Thompson for his first game for the Vale, and Andy Olsen, for Tony Dyer in the 64th minute, two minutes later the Vale were rewarded for their pressure when Wall got one back after a good run from Mark Stevens on the left flank his cross found Wall at the far post to head home.

In the final stages Yate went down to ten men, Olsen on a run towards the goal was pulled down by Davidge just outside the box and was shown the Red Card. The free kick taken by Steve Thomas was tipped away by Woods. Pewsey continued to look for that equalising goal Flippance again had a shot tipped away but Yate Town held on for the win and a Semi Final place.
