Didcot Town  1    Southall Town  0

Tuesday, 19 November 2002

A cracking 30-yard strike from debutant Andy Parsons settled this entertaining encounter at Loop Meadow Stadium on Tuesday night.

Southall Town showed why they are challenging near the top of the Hellenic Premier Division as they applied all the early pressure. Ngoyi Sebestien was only denied by a fine challenge from Scott Davies in the first minute and then moments later Jordon Norris saw his goal bound effort deflected over the bar. Didcot rode their luck a little but then applied their own pressure. Andy Cooper shot over from only 5 yards following a corner and Davies was unfortunate not to apply the finishing touch to Darren McNamara?s cross. McNamara came close himself midway through the half but shot inches over after good work from Lee Newport. Southall finished the half as they had started it and Didcot were grateful to defender Jamie Heapy for making a superb last ditch clearance as Sebestien threatened to score.

Half Time: 0-0

Didcot gradually took control after the break although the visitors always threatened to score in breakaway attacks. McNamara had a shot deflected wide for a corner in the 47th minute. Davies then headed over the bar when, in truth, he should have at least worked the keeper. Terry Morrisey was creating problems on the right and he set-up Ian Concannon in the 51st minute. Only a combination of goalkeeper Kenny lavender and the post denied him. Newport was then denied by a superb one handed save by Lavender as the home side dominated. Midway through the second period Didcot got the winner. There looked to be no danger when midfielder Parsons picked the ball up but he then unleashed a thunderbolt shot into the far corner of the net. A moment of brilliance from Southall?s Paul Lawrence almost drew the visitors level but his curling 20-yard shot came back off the post. Didcot nearly added to their lead in the last few minutes. Morrisey had a low drive turned around the post by Lavender and Parsons almost scored his second with a clever back heel after Newport had shot into the area.
