Wootton Bassett in ?Derby? draw at home to Pewsey

Pewsey Vale drew their local derby with Wootton Bassett. Wootton have not won in their three meetings with Pewsey this season.

There was a good chance for Pewsey to take the lead within the first two minutes but striker Barry Flippance had his shot turned away for a corner by home keeper Steve Hale. A good move by Darren Tapper to Flippance found Ross Anderson on the right side but his powerful cross was too hard for the advancing Craig Wall. This was always going to be a hard fought contest and an off the ball incident resulted in both Tapper for Pewsey and Paul Garbutt for Bassett being cautioned. Gary Ashford put the home side ahead in the 17th minute, a cross found Ashford in front of goal and he was able to turn and put the ball past keeper Elliott Jackson. Hale in the home goal denied flippance again in the 31st minute. Pewsey eqaulised when Brian Combellack won a corner in the 37th minute on the right side. A perfect corner by Wall found defender Martin Churchward at the far post and he climbed to head home.

Half Time 1 ? 1

Pewsey lost Flippance in the 50th minute with a hamstring injury, bringing on Andy Olsen to play in midfield pushing Wall to play up front. Both managers made changes but with many chances going begging a draw was looking the most likely and only outcome. Jackson denied Bassett?s Daniel Clayton and Churchward for Vale had another header cleared off the line, again from a Craig Wall corner.
