Saturday, 16 November 2002

Chipping Norton Town went through to the 2nd round of the Oxfordshire Senior Cup with a hard thought 4 ? 2 victory at Eynsham Association.

It was an entertaining cup match played in the right spirit. Chippy took the lead after 14 minutes when Colin Tyrell was fouled which resulted in Robbie Wyatt smashing the spot kick in. The home side equalised within a minute when Phillips scored but Chippy started to take control, Andrew Helby somehow missed from five yards out then the impressive Craig Dore saw his shot whistle past the post.

Half Time: 1-1

Town took the lead after 55 minutes a seven-man move resulted in Craig Dore crossing and Robbie Wyatt was there to score his second of the game from 10 yards. Town made it 3 ? 1 when Mark Dennis was tripped and Wyatt duly converted to complete his hat trick. Wyatt scored his 4th of the game and his 16th of the season; a cross from Jon Muttock resulted in Mark Dennis hitting the post and landed at Wyatt?s feet and he tapped the ball in from five yards out. The home side scored a late consolation through Hodges on 85 minutes. But Town can be pleased that they have averted a potential ?banana skin?.

Chippy play Watlington Town at home in the next round.

Chippy Town Reserves ? Match at home to Highworth Town Reserves in the Anagram Record Reserve Cup first round fell victim to the weather.

Next week, Chippy First team make the long trip to Harrow Hill (3 p.m. kick off) while the Reserves play host to Easington Sports Reserves (3 p.m. kick off).
