Round 2

Didcot Town  0    Brackley Town  1

Tuesday, 29 October 2002

Didcot were completely out of sorts as they tried to make it through to the semi final of the Floodlit Cup on Tuesday. Brackley always looked the more likely to score and the home side had to wait until the 82nd minute before they managed their first, and only, shot on target.

In the first five minutes Brackley?s Nick Neal was already causing Didcot?s defence problems. Firstly he broke clean through before lifting the ball over the bar from only 10 yards out. Moments later he beat the offside trap again, rounded keeper Gareth Walker, but then miss controlled the ball as it went out for a goal kick. The next goalmouth action of note at either end didn?t arrive until the 39th minute and the visitors scored the only goal of the game. Paul Noble did well to block Neil King?s shot from the edge of the box but from the resulting corner Paul Hammond drove the ball into the penalty area and Neal tucked the ball home.

Half Time: 0-1

The second half was equally uneventful and both keepers were mere spectators until the closing moments. Walker did well to tip a fierce Andy Baird drive over the crossbar in the 80th minute and then Brackley?s Richard Darvill was equal to Darren McNamara?s shot two minutes later. Darvill wasn?t troubled again and Brackley thoroughly deserved their victory.
