Pewsey Vale FC  4    Ardley United  0

Saturday, 26 October 2002

Pewsey Vale returned to winning ways with victory over Division One side Ardley United in the League Challenge Cup.

A good chance for the home side to take an early lead came after three minutes with a free kick given for a foul on striker Barry Flippance but the kick was saved by Ardley keeper Martin Woodward. Pewsey?s latest signing keeper Elliott Jackson was soon brought into the action saving from Paul Bough in the 4th minute. Pewsey went ahead after eight minutes when a shot by Paul Day was saved but the ball fell to Shaun Terry who made no mistake scoring from 25 yards. Pewsey was playing good open football and increased their lead through Nathan Holt in the 12th minute following good work between Ross Anderson Flippance Holt and Day before the ball was played back to Holt to slip the ball past the keeper. Pewsey went three up in the 21st minute with Anderson pushing a great through ball to Flippance, who looked suspiciously offside, the flag stayed down leaving Flippance to run on round the keeper and tap the ball into an empty net.

Half Time: 3-0

Ten minutes into the second half Pewsey lost defender Steve Thomas through injury and brought on Adam Wainwright. Ardley had a lot more of the ball during the second half but they were unable to penetrate the Pewsey defence with Jackson in fine form and full control of his goal area. Pewsey got their fourth goal in the 80th minute after good work by Holt set up Flippance to get his second of the match. With four minutes to go Jackson denied Colin Pickup a consolation goal for Ardley tipping away his powerful shot for a corner to keep a clean sheet on his debut.

Next match at the Recreation Ground Hellenic Premier Division Tuesday 29th October KO 7.30pm - Pewsey Vale v Gloucester United.
