Saturday, 26 October 2002

League leaders, Chipping Norton Town went down for only their second defeat of the season, going down 4 ? 1 at Winterbourne Utd. Winterbourne were the last team to beat Town on the opening day of the season.

Town started well Gary Wright seeing his shot going close inside 5 mins and Darren Mills having an effort that clipped the bar after 10 mins. After 25 mins, after good work from Mark Odom he set up Seb Wilsker whose shot was brilliantly saved by the impressive Bean. The rebound fell to Gary Wright but that was also brilliantly saved by Bean. Chippy then missed their best chance of the match when Robbie Wyatt one on one with Bean shot wide. Chippy lost Captain Colin Tyrell just before half time after a terrible tackle by Nash, which resulted in Tyrell limping off. Manager, Phil Heath replaced Tyrell with himself at half time.

Half Time: 0-0

The home side started the better in the 2nd half. Scott Cameron having an effort, which went wide, but it was Chippy who took the lead after 54 mins, when Mark Dennis played Mark Odom through his shot beat Bean to score his 7th goal of the season. It could have been two moments later, but Wyatt?s shot was well saved by Bean. The home side equalised through Spiller and then went 2 ? 1 up when Darren Moxham calmly scored after 77 mins. Two minutes later, Scott Cameron scored after a defensive mix-up. Town?s Mark Odom then saw his brilliant effort saved by Bean. But the game was wrapped up in injury time when Spiller scored his second of the game.

Town Manager, Phil Heath commented afterwards ?I cannot believe that we lost today, we had so many chances and missed them. I am pleased because we have played well, but now is when the season starts. Next Saturday we have another tough game at Cheltenham Saracens, we will be up for it. I only hope that our luck will be better than today.?
