Division One (East)
RS Basingstoke 1 Milton United 1
Saturday, 19 October 2002
Milton United gained a hard fought point at RS Basingstoke on Saturday to stop a three game losing streak and scored there first goal for almost 5 hours.
Half Time 1-0
The second half saw Milton come out a different side and seemed more assured with a 3-5-2 formation. This meant that talented Mark Orlando was able to pull the strings and the wingbacks became more and more influential, with plenty of quality crosses. Milton should have equalised twice with the tireless Gary 'Scouse' Hartley bursting into the box and had two really good chances to bring Milton level but he rather rushed the opportunities and blazed them over. Milton kept Basingstoke on the back foot for the whole half but they looked as though they had held on until the 80th minute when Milton persistence paid off with a super half volley from 10 yards from Andrew 'Bomber' Brown that appeared to go through the defender and the Basingstoke keeper. The game then became scrappy as Basingstoke reverted to hacking the pacey Nathan Smith every time he went forward this almost grievous bodily harm treatment was reacted to by the fiery midfield man Steven Collins being ?yellow carded? and was lucky to stay on, although, it later emerged he had been spat on. Then as tempers got thinner the up till then man of the match Andrew 'Omar' Cummings saw red for a stamping incident and the game then petered out into a draw that on the performance in both halves was a fair reflection although Milton must look back and rue missed opportunities.
