Bishops Cleeve  1    Didcot Town  0

Saturday, 12 October 2002

Didcot lost their unbeaten League record after a rather indifferent display at Bishops Cleeve on Saturday. Both side didn?t really get going and whilst Didcot probably created the better chances they can have no complaints about the result.

Didcot actually started quite well and midfielder Chris Johnson brought a good save from keeper John Skeen in the first minute. In the 10th minute Skeen again had to be at his best to save from Ian Concannon after the Didcot striker had been put clean through. In a game of few opportunities, recent signing Steve Jenkins worked himself an opening for Didcot on the half hour but screwed his shot wide. Five minutes later and Jenkins again came close to opening his Town account but chipped the ball narrowly over the crossbar with Skeen stranded.

Half Time: 0-0

The home side had rarely threatened at all in the first half but they duly grabbed the only goal of the came three minutes after the interval. Town?s Jamie Heapy handled in his own penalty area giving the referee no option but to award a spot kick to Cleeve. Didcot keeper Jeff Simmonds did well to save the resulting penalty from John Hills but could do nothing as the same player followed up to knock home the rebound. The visitors struggled to find their rhythm but could still have earned a point in the closing stages. Concannon was unlucky to have a goal disallowed for a harsh offside decision with 15 minutes left and Jenkins shot just wide after a good run and cross by substitute Terry Morrisey shortly afterwards.

Manager Peter Foley will be looking for a marked improvement next Saturday in the FA Vase 1st Round fixture at Bedfont if his side are to progress further in the competition.
