Old Woodstock Town  0    Chipping Norton  1

Saturday, 05 October 2002

Chipping Norton Town stayed top of the table with a hard working victory at fellow challengers, Old Woodstock Town. Town gave a debut to Jon Muttock who signed from Abingdon Town in the week and he did not disappoint with an outstanding display at the heart of the Chippy defence along with fellow centre back Neil Maskell who was also outstanding.

Town started well with Gary Wright having a shot that went wide but the only goal of the game came when a pass by Colin Tyrell set up Craig Dore who drilled in a cross for Gary Wright to score from five yards out for his first goal for the Club. Chippy should have made it 2 ? 0 but Andrew Helby?s 40 yard rocket hit the post.

Half Time: 0-1

Chippy started the better in the second half. Robbie Wyatt saw his shot go inches wide. Town then lost Paul O?Hare with a hamstring injury before the end of the match. Woodstock offered nothing up front as Chippy keeper Ewan Prentice was not called upon to make a save during the whole game.

Chippy Manager Phil Heath commented afterwards ?today was a big game and the players have responded. Mutty (Jon Muttock) and Mask (Neil Maskell) were superb at the back, they did not let them have anything a sign of a good partnership.

Chippy Town Reserves lost 2 ? 1 at home to Middle Barton Reserves. James Cleeveley scored on his debut.
