Saturday, 05 October 2002

Mixed start continues as Pewsey are beaten again.

Pewsey Vale continued their Jekyll and Hyde season with this disappointing result against fellow promoted Division One West side Hook Norton. Two goals one in each half from Hook gave the home side the points.

Pewsey could have gone into an early lead after three minutes but Barry Flippance headed wide from a Shaun Terry cross. Anton Sambrook for Hook also headed wide shortly after. Pewsey was having a good spell and around the 14th minute after fine play between Ross Anderson and Flippance gave Nathan Holt a chance but Holt fluffed his shot on goal.Hook Norton started to get back into the game and they broke the deadlock after 36 minutes when the Pewsey defence failed to cut out a cross and Cliff Cousins headed the opening goal. Vale goalkeeper Anthony Betterton later denied Cousins who put in a powerful header. Pewsey lost Holt on the 38th minute with an injury bringing on Mick McNally.

Half Time: 1-0

Flippance was unlucky for Pewsey on the hour when Anderson pushed the ball through to him but his effort went inches wide. The game became scrappy and Pewsey went down to 10 men in the 71st minute when Terry was red carded for bad language to the referee assist. As the player went off the game again had to be stopped when an incident occurred between a spectator and Terry as he made his way to the dressing room. The referee quickly resumed order and the game continued. The result was put beyond doubt when Sambrook shot into an empty net with the defence and midfield non-existent.
