PEWSEY HIT WINNING WAYS WITH CUP VICTORY

After conceding 13 goals in the last two games Pewsey Vale got back to winning ways in this cup clash. The Premier Division side got back with a not so impressive performance against Division One opponents Cirencester United in the Challenge Cup. With injuries mounting up Vale Manager Don Rogers was again forced to field a weakened side.

Pewsey should have taken an early lead on two minutes but striker Barry Flippance had his shot kicked off the line for a corner. Against the run of play Cirencester went in to a 7th minute lead when a poor back header by defender Tony Dyer let in Ben Potter to chip over the head of Vale keeper Anthony Betterton. Pewsey lost midfielder Shaun Terry with an injury on 15 minutes and brought on Craig Wall. The Vale got back on level terms when the home keeper was stranded after going for the ball on the edge of the box, the ball came to Nathan Holt, who shot into an empty net from 25yards,on 28 minutes.

Half Time: 1-1

After the break Pewsey went into the lead on 52 minutes when Wall made a great challenge for the ball on the left side his pass found Flippance who then provided the pass to Paul Day to put the ball past the keeper. Cirencester at times pressed to get back into the game but it was Vale who had the most of chances to increase their score Flippance shot wide on 71 minutes, after a great move by Ross Anderson that gave him a shooting chance. On the 74th minute a perfect cross by Wall from the left side to Anderson on the right edge of the box but Andersons shot went just over the bar. New signing Andy Kitchener from Cirencester Academy playing his first game for the Vale turned in a great performance.
