Saturday, 28 September 2002

Chipping Norton Town went to the top of the table with a comfortable victory against struggling Ross Town at Walterbush Road.

As early as the 3rd minute ?Chippy? took the lead when a Colin Tyrell cross-shot flew over the visitor?s keeper Whitaker to score his fourth of the season. Town continued to dominate with Wyatt and Odom both going close. Chippy made it 2 ? 0 when Mark Odom?s shot was fumbled by Whitaker and Andrew Helby scored his first of the season on 19 minutes. It was 3 - 0 on 25 minutes when a superb shot by Paul O?Hare gave Whitaker no chance.

Chipping Norton continued to have chances and Mark Odom?s shot was well saved. Town were reduced to 10 men just before half time when Wayne Bowles was given his matching orders for a professional foul.

Half Time: 3 ? 0

Town brought Danny Cleveley and Phil Heath on at half time for Gary Wright and Robbie Wyatt and scored their fourth when Odom?s through ball sent Darren Mills clear and he coolly lobbed Whitaker to score on 67 minutes. O?Hare was unlucky not to score his second of the game but his shot hit the bar. Chippy wrapped the game up in the final minute after good work from Cleveley resulted in player/manager Phil Heath scoring his first goal for a year! The game was played in the right spirit and was well refereed by Simon Maynard.
