Adderbury Park  0    Witney United  0

Saturday, 21 September 2002

A solid display by United saw Adderbury's recent run of three straight league victories come to an end in front of the home sides biggest gate of the season. Witney were dealt a blow on the morning of the game when Justin Vanstone was ruled out with food poisoning so young Steve Reynolds was drafted in to the squad.

This didn?t affect United though as they made all the early running with both Kelvin Dowling and Ryan McDonald coming close to breaking the deadlock. It took the home side 28 minutes to muster an attack when Tim Bullard worked an opening for himself but shot tamely wide. Witney were then dealt a further blow when Matt Tarry limped from the field with a recurrence of his knee injury but were still making all the running. A great through ball by Scott Dash found David Lawrence who tried to poke it home but Martin Gibbs did well to save with his feet.

Half-Time 0 - 0
The injuries were mounting for Witney and Ben Border who had only been on the field 16 minutes had to be replaced at half time suffering with a back injury.

With United looking comfortable at the back they continued to try and find an opening goal and both David Lawrence and Scott Dash created half-chances for themselves but neither were able to net. Scott Dash who was by now playing up front then showed a deft touch to set up Ryan McDonald but the 16 year-old shot straight at Gibbs who held well.

Adderbury served notice that they hadn?t given up when Stephen Hay burst through from the left but his shot was well held by Joe Miller. Witney still looked the more likely to score and Marc Page sent David Lawrence away but again Gibbs in the Park goal was equal to it. However in the 90th minute we had drama at both ends. First a long ball by the superb Chris Meddes found Dowling but his attempted lob went just wide only for Adderbury to break and a cross by Danny Carter was headed over by Adam Daley when it looked easier to score. It was not to be and both sides were left to settle for a point from an entertaining match.
