Teversal's roller-coaster season saw another below par performance against Nettleham, another of the teams harbouring on the relegation trap door. This lack-luster performance now has the Tevie boys looking over their shoulder with all the teams below them having games in hand, which could see the Carnarvon Street club drawn into the relegation dog fight.
The performance wasn't helped when Teversal arrived only 30 minutes prior to the re-scheduled kick off time due to a fault on Nettleham's floodlights. This was highlighted when Nettleham took a 2nd minute lead when Flint miss kicked his clearance allowing Wilkinson to put the visitors defence under pressure with his effort being blocked only for the ball to fall Skelton to fire home the opener. Both sides tried to play football, but the number of unforced errors produced an uninspiring affair with nether side showing any form of inspiration of any kind. Teversal did try and forge their way back into the game and Jon Flint produced a rare bit of quality with a cross to the Nettleham far post, unfortunately for Teversal it was only inches to high for Richard Curzon to head home.
In line with the game, it took something unusual for Teversal to pull level after 38 minutes. The ball was played up to Gomm in the Teversal front line. Gomm laid the ball off to Cockerill, but Frecklington managed to get to the ball before the Teversal midfielder and fired in the best own goal you could ever wish to see, right into the top corner from all of 30 yards to make it 1-1. The visitors did manage to lift their game slightly, but no where near the level you would expect from this talented crop of players. Credit to the young Nettleham side, they manage to match Teversal in every department and possible went in at half time disappointed at being on level terms after having the better of the possession in a very disappointing first 45 minutes.
The second half saw the tempo of the game lifted slightly, but the skill factor stayed the same and again it was another error that lead to the third goal of the game on 58 minutes. Teversal's Jamie Hudson's searching pass to Cockerill saw the unfortunate Frecklington miss his clearance and allowed Colin Cockerill to pounce on the chance and fired home an unstoppable effort to give Teversal a 2-1 lead.
Craig Frecklington managed to show some character and went some way to atone for his earlier errors when his strong run and cross on the hour mark made it an easy task for Wilkinson to hammer the equaliser home from six yards to make it 2-2.
The last half-hour saw both sides swapping things around and introducing a number of substitutions to try and claim the win. But again it was a big error that led to Nettleham's penalty on 70 minutes. Jon Shipley like the other errors that lead to a goal totally missed his clearance, Clayton capitalised by getting to the by-line to pull back to Wilkinson, Colin Cockerill slid in to make a challenge and was harshly adjudged to have handled the ball. Up stepped Hodd's to send Parker the wrong way to give the home side a 3-2 lead.
Teversal through everything at Nettleham and sub Steve Hutchinson went close on three occasion's, the first was a good header coming back of the ball, the second saw his strong run and shot come back off the post and the third was a speculative effort from the edge of the 18 yard box that went only inches wide. Nettleham also went close when Parker produced a quality save on 83 minutes to deny Danny Lynn's snap shot.
Another disappointing performance from Teversal against a Nettleham side that had lost their last four league games.
Next Saturday Teversal travel up the road for the 3rd Round League Cup tie with neighbours North Notts (3.00pm kick off). This being the first of two encounters at the Huthwaite Road ground within 14 days between these arch rivals.
