Whitworths  1    Wellingborough Town 2004  2

Saturday, 24 December 2005

The Doughboys must now be considered title favourites in Division One after this raid over the fence saw them get the better of their table topping neighbours. Nick Mason gave the visitors a first minute lead and the 'law of the ex' saw former Flourmen favourite James Daldy make a goalscoring return with the second Doughboys goal after twenty minutes. Lee Purser replied for Whitworths seven minutes before the interval, heading in a Matt Freeman corner from close range but despite their best efforts after the break Wellingborough held on for a vital win.

A talking point was the phenomenal attendance of 1,150 - thought to be a record for the division in modern times.
