Northampton Spencer  2    St Ives Town  1

Saturday, 24 September 2005

Northampton Spencer returned to the top of the Premier Division as a result of this win, but the victory was overshadowed by the loss of defender Jamie Moss with a broken leg late in the first half. Jerry Moss hit the post and Darren Frost was denied by a fine save with the game scoreless. The injury to Jamie Moss meant the match was delayed for over half an hour before Spencer took charge early in the second half. Scott Coleman opened the scoring after 54 minutes from a Jerry Moss pass before halting Spencer's run of penalty failures with a second from the spot eight minutes later after a foul on Frost. Jon Gull scored for St Ives at the second attempt after 70 minutes after good work by Craig Donaldson but it wasn't enough to earn the Premier newboys any reward from an ill tempered encounter, even though the home side ended the game a man down after Adam Baptiste picked up a second yellow card.
