An outstanding second half hat trick from the Premier Division's top scorer Mark Paul saw Yaxley extend their unbeaten run to eleven games and climb to third place in the table.
There was little sign of the excitement ahead in a low key first half in which the Wakes were the more fluent side. Paul fired wide at the near post from a Mark Kingston cross while home keeper Lea Jordan tipped over a goalbound effort from lively Wakes wide man Andy Smurthwaite.
The match burst into life in the opening minute of the second half with a wonderful solo goal by Paul. He collected the ball on the half way line, burst down the left flank and then jinked inside leaving a trail of defenders in his wake before firing past Bourne keeper Mick Hurst.
The woodwork denied Simon Acton as Yaxley pushed for a second goal and it arrived after 58 minutes when Paul showed great anticipation to burst onto Jason Gough's defensive header, round Hurst and fire into the net from the acutest of angles.
Hurst thwarted Mark Kingston after a mazy run by the winger, while at the other end Neal Spafford hit the bar with Mark O'Dea firing over with a follow up shot. It was the Cuckoos who had the cutting edge and they went further in front after 64 minutes when substitute Scott Bogusz drilled the ball just inside Hurst's far post from just outside the box.
Acton sent a diving header just wide from a Bogusz cross before O'Dea's near post flick put Bourne on the scoresheet after 71 minutes. Four minutes later Yaxley's three goal margin was restored as James Picillo won an aerial tussle with Gough and Paul raced clear to apply another clinical finish for his 25th domestic goal of the campaign.
Bourne had the last word ten minutes from time when Michael Stevenson drilled a well struck effort home from the edge of the box.
